Beauty from Brokenness

Updated: Apr 26

Listen to the audio version of this post

As sure as the sun rises and sets, we will all experience some amount of discontent, discomfort or pain.  When we go through those tough times, it's hard to get past the present circumstances, to see the silver lining behind the clouds.  It may seem like the problem will never end, that there's no way out, that we'll never get ahead or that we'll never heal from grief or a broken heart.

But did you know that in those difficult times, we can have a hope that our brokenness will be made whole again?

The Bible describes this hope for those times:

“The Spirit of the Lord God is upon Me, because the Lord has anointed Me to preach good tidings to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound...to comfort all who mourn...to give them beauty for ashes..."  Isaiah 61:1-3

When the beauty of all that's around us and within us seems far gone, like it's been burned up and washed away, we can have a hope that those ashes are not the end of the story.

Yes, that event may have been unexpected.  Yes, it may have been unfair.  Yes, it may even have been a consequence of your own actions.  But it's the 'Me' in this passage - Jesus Christ, the Son of God - who can right the wrong; who can take what has been shattered and put the pieces back together.  He can transform the brokenness - the heartache - the bondage...the ashes into beauty, restoring all back to what has always been beautiful to start.  In Him and through Him, restoration is possible.

Rest assured that at the end of brokenness is beauty...awaiting to arise from the ashes.

Confidently embrace true beauty - from God's perspective.
