Beauty is Fleeting

What is most important to you in your life? Is it your family? Friends? For some people, their looks and how they are perceived by others may be their biggest priority. They may focus all their time, energy and money to make sure they always look good. But as we will learn today, beauty may not be all it's cracked up to be.
In fact, as the Bible tells us:
"Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised."
Proverbs 31:30
You may be asking yourself, what does "fleeting" even mean here? It's something that is temporary or vanishes quickly. This concept is used in multiple verses in the Bible to describe that earthly life is temporary. How is beauty fleeting? This verse tells us that, while beauty does exist - it's unstable, not guaranteed to stick around. It's not meant to be the object of our worship, nor of our time and energy because - in time - it fades.
Interestingly enough, charm is mentioned here too. Charm is most known as a deceptive way we seek to win someone to our side. Beauty and charm often go hand-in-hand where we can be blinded by both. We should not be fooled by the masks either of them wear.
As the verse concludes it reveals true beauty; a woman's virtue in knowing there's something - someone - much bigger than herself. Bigger than her own sense of beauty. Someone eternal, and so much more worthy of worship.
Focusing on the temporary - like external beauty - is like trying to catch and keep a snowflake. While it's beautiful, being a part of a serene, white blanket that covers the landscape,it wasn't meant to last long. And before long, it fades. As we consider life's priorities, let's remember that while we can appreciate beauty, we must grab ahold of what is truly beautiful.
For while beauty is fleeting, the essence of true beauty will never fade.
Confidently embrace true beauty - from God's perspective.
